So lucky to have a somewhat sunny day after finishing my last quilt – I have pictures to share!

This quilt was a pretty big challenge for me – half square triangles and quarter inch seams are two things that don’t want to play nice together! I made quite a few mistakes, so I had extra blocks and fabric after finishing the top, so I pieced a back as well:

I quilted this on my Juki with straight lines. Rulers for quilting – one of those “duh” moments when you finally understand how people get such nice straight lines! I’m glad I finally got turned onto that idea!
I used a 6″ square ruler with fabric grips and rested it against the foot of the machine while lining up with previous lines. The pattern of the quilt top was used to align the stitching. It took a while, but this is my favorite quilting work yet.
This is a commissioned quilt, so I have to say goodbye soon. It sure was a pleasure to create! I have all the math to create a pattern… and if I get motivated enough, I just might try my hand at making patterns. Things in the blog world seem to be changing a lot lately… it seems to be one big marketing platform. I’m kind of tired of it all – but that’s just me. Sales and marketing are the American Way, right? I kind of like the idea of making a little money with my creativity, but I also don’t want to turn into a sales girl. Something to consider.

The quilt is stunning!! I see you used your Juki to quilt with. I have a question about your experience with the Juki. I see you straight line quilted for this one. Have you free motion quilted on it? I have used mine to free motion quilt and am having a devil of a time with snapping threads. Checked all the things (quality thread, burrs in thread path (none), new quality needle, bobbin tension good, top tension figured out, quality thread (went from glide (snapped the worst- to isacord…a bit better….to aurifull…it has seemed to last the longest)…brought it to shop ..he said he didn’t see anything wrong with it.., cleaned/oiled machine, oil the hook race…clean lint out……… I am asking anyone that uses a Juki to free motion quilt with what their experience it. The stitches are gorgeous….its just snapping threads and can’t seem to figure out what I am doing. The quilt you created is absolutely beautiful!!! What talent you have!
Thanks Deana! I do use my Juki to do free-motion-quilting. It does not work so well when the fabric is being pulled backwards, and even side to side sometimes. I don’t have very good control of my quilting that way. I prefer quilting straight lines on my Juki. 2 years ago I got a longarm quilting machine and have shifted to quilting on that now. I use Gutterman All Purpose 100% polyester thread – and that works the best for me in the machine. I hope you can tame your machine and enjoy the quilting process!
