Post Election Relief

Third Eye Chakra Quilt in progress

Yes… the relief is palpable. The realization that more than half of all white people voted FOR hate and against reality, really stings deep. I’m amazed at how much the right has accomplished in its disinformation campaign. FYI: for home-school teachers, and people who just are interested in American History, might I recommend an excellent history book? The People’s History Of The United States by Howard Zinn has been an amazing resource in our home!

We have a lot of work to do in this country, but I’m feeling a whole lot better about the future. While Biden wouldn’t have been my first choice, it was the first step in making positive change. The next step is to firmly impress upon the Dem’s how much they NEED to start making progressive changes fast. Why try to work with a group of people who would never work with you if the tables were turned? Why not work further with the minority groups who voted for you, and show all these new voters you are listening and ready to ACTUALIZE change? That would not only grow the progressive base, but we could save our economy, our futures, and our planet too!

Third Eye Chakra Quilt in progress

Okay… *sigh* … enough of all that. I’m really writing to share that I’ve started working on the Third Eye Quilt as part of the Chakra Quilt Series I started in 2015. These quilts just take so much time. I thought I’d have the series done by now. I make them purely for emotional healing purposes, and each one takes on a different emotional aspect as I’m working on it. And I guess I just have a lot of baggage to deal with.

This one is about the Ajna Chakra – or Third Eye Chakra. The colorway is indigo/purple, and I’m using the wedge ruler to make a circle shape. The circle will be divided in half to signify the two petaled lotus flower, which is one of the symbols of this chakra system.

About This Chakra

The gift of this chakra is seeing – both inner and outer worlds. The energy of this chakra allows us to experience clear thought as well as gifts of spiritual contemplation and self reflection.

The energy of Ajna allows us to access our inner guidance that comes from the depths of our being. The “way of the third eye” is seeing everything as it is from a point of “witness” or “observer”, or from simply being mindful – moment by moment.

It means examining self-limiting ideas and developing wisdom that comes from a perspective that transcends the duality of good or bad, black or white. It means seeing and helping others to see the deeper meanings of the situations in their lives.

Sixth chakra is holistic in nature. When this chakra is fully activated, both hemispheres of the brain function in synchrony. The right hemisphere’s creativity and synthetic thinking is integrated and balanced with left hemisphere’s logical and analytical thinking.

This is where your sense of justice and your ethics originate. When your third eye is open, you not only see but you also understand.

I have to admit that I’ve had a difficult time getting started on this one – my sewing mojo is a bit lacking. However… I did finally get some stitching in. Now I’m in a decision-making state trying to decide how to layout my wedges. Here are two versions up on the design wall:

I’m showing these in black and white to save the pretty reveal when finished! I’m happy to have a project to work on over the next few months.

How about you? How are you holding up after this election? What are you working on?
